Summer Newsletter 2008
Despite the weather, the tennis season is really upon us, so here is the latest news from the Club. Our May disco was a great success – thanks to everyone who supported us – we raised £735 which will be used to support our junior coaching programme.
British Tennis Membership:
The LTA has recently announced that membership will be free for at least the next 3 years and is keen for all individuals to become members. From the club’s point of view, our entitlement to Wimbledon tickets from next year will be based purely on the number of British Tennis Members we have and the Wimbledon ballot will only be open to British Tennis Members. So, if you enjoy visiting Wimbledon, please make sure you sign up. You can register online at www.lta.org.uk/membership or pick up a form in the clubhouse.
5 July – Senior Tournament, starting at 2pm, followed by a barbecue (sign up in advance please)
Sunday 3 August – Senior Doubles Competition. Start 10am, lunchtime barbecue.
Sunday 31 August – Senior Singles Competition. Start 10am. No barbecue, but bring a picnic if you wish. Please register in advance for these events.
Senior coaching – there may still be places available – contact Suki on 269989 or email
A polite reminder to anyone who may have forgotten to renew their membership – please pass subs on to our Treasurer as soon as possible. Also, in order to preserve the life of the courts, please make sure you wear the correct footwear when playing. Unfortunately our shed was broken into recently and a quantity of red and yellow tennis balls was stolen. Please keep a look out around the village in case they have been disposed of anywhere, as they were purchased especially for our youngest juniors. Remember to look at the notice boards when you visit the club and let’s hope for some real tennis weather soon!
